HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT IN KANAH (CANA) by PJ 

"2 On Tuesday[a] there was a wedding at Kanah in the Galil; and the mother of Yeshua was there. 2 Yeshua too was invited to the wedding, along with his talmidim. 3 The wine ran out, and Yeshua’s mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” 4 Yeshua replied, “Mother, why should that concern me? — or you? My time hasn’t come yet.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Now six stone water-jars were standing there for the Jewish ceremonial washings, each with a capacity of twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Yeshua told them, “Fill the jars with water,” and they filled them to the brim. 8 He said, “Now draw some out, and take it to the man in charge of the banquet”; and they took it. 9 The man in charge tasted the water; it had now turned into wine! He did not know where it had come from, but the servants who had drawn the water knew. So he called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone else serves the good wine first and the poorer wine after people have drunk freely. But you have kept the good wine until now!” 11 This, the first of Yeshua’s miraculous signs, he did at Kanah in the Galil; he manifested his glory, and his talmidim came to trust in him." Kanah was the site of Yeshua's first miracle and the story seems to often be read in a fleeting moment  but studying reveals the story is quite interesting and important, filled with hidden meaning.

Yeshua was obviously at a wedding and we later in the Book of John find his brothers traveling with Him so perhaps this was a family event and all the disciples were with Him as well. The disciples had yet to see a miracle performed by Yeshua, yet they were still following Him,  learning and really operating in faith to a great degree.  Yeshua's Mother had KNOWN His messianic identity since before His birth but the disciples did not yet know who He was.   Yeshua's Mother's knowledge of His messianic identity pushed her to tell the servants to do whatever He instructed them.  She had zero doubts about Yeshua or Who He was.  Yeshua told her it wasn't time but she knew He was the only One Who could fix the situation.

Now there were six stone water-jars standing there for the Jewish ceremonial washings, each with a capacity of twenty or thirty gallons.  Not seven, not eight but six...the number of man.  The number of incompleteness.  A covenant not yet fulfilled. Notice, Yeshua did not create new jars,  He told the servants to fill them with water and then recreated what was in those jars.  This is the entire Gospel in one image.....the Law didn't disappear, it was fulfilled.....transformed....transcended.  People were to become full of new wine and be new creatures.

Running out of wine at a wedding in that culture at that time wasn't just an awkward situation.  It was a sign of judgment, of something broken.  That was what this event was showing about mankind but the miracle revealed the redemption, that there is a new creation by the power of G-d through Yeshua.

The wine was served but the Master of the wedding had no idea from whence the wine came.  The only ones who really knew were the servants who drew the water.   The ones who did what Yeshua told them to do.  The ones who were obedient to the living Word.  And here is Apostle John's recurring theme......the world does not recognize who Yeshua is.  But Yeshua's servants know.  Those who are obedient to what He says to do, know the Messianic identity of Messiah Yeshua.

Why did Yeshua's first miracle occur at a wedding?  Because throughout Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, G-d frames His relationship with His people as a marriage covenant.  And the Apostle John said, "he manifested his glory, and his talmidim came to trust in him."  It wasn't the wine that changed them.  It was seeing who He was behind the miracle.

This tiny little story in the Word is actually a declaration:

1)  The old covenant's purification system is now fulfilled in Messiah.
2)  The Messianic Age, long promised, has officially begun.
3)  Yeshua is the long awaited Bridegroom of a New Covenant and G-d creates a new creation.
4)  Those closest to Yeshua see what the world cannot.
5)  His "hour", the Cross, is always behind every miracle.

It is such a small story....and yet the entirety of the Gospel of Messiah Yeshua.   So my questions to you today are:   "Do you know Him?  Do you recognize who Yeshua is? "
