Anger
by Molly Wingard
Joy In The Lord Ministries -Pine Bluff, AR

Some people don’t believe that they need to keep their anger under control. Some people are not happy unless they are angry at something or someone. The way we live is a choice. We are the one that has the control in our hands. When we get called for our anger, we like to play the blame game. We have a choice to make, either we follow Jesus or satan. We are what we choose to be.

Dictionary.com - Pride - the state or feeling of being proud. Thesaurus.com - Pride - self-esteem.

Pride is excessive belief in one’s own ability. Pride will put grace to sleep. The Child of God who is arrogant is blind to the Grace of God. Arrogant is feeling or showing self-importance and contempt or disregard for others. Angry people are usually poor listeners. People that are angry react defensively. Angry people are usually selfish. They think about what others can do for them. It’s their way or the highway.

James 1:20 (KJV) says, "For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God." When anger hangs around there is trouble nearby. Instead of using the energy generated by anger to attack the problem at hand, it is usually the object of the anger attacked.

(Ephesians 4:15-19) We are to speak the truth in love and use our words to build up others; don’t let the enemy have control of your words or your mouth. Anger becomes sin when we allow it to boil over without stopping it. It becomes sin also if a grudge is held or kept all bottled up on the inside. We can handle our anger by recognizing and admitting our selfish and wrong doings. (Proverbs 28:13 and 1 John 1:9)

God is sovereign and is in control of everything. (Psalm 145:8,9,17) Reflect on the truth until we get it from our minds into our hearts. Until we totally give everything to God we will react to those who hurt us.

We can trust God because He is all-knowing and sees all. (Genesis 18:25.) Common sense tells us that speaking in a respectful voice will bring an atmosphere of unity. But angry people try to intimidate with the way they talk to people. Yelling creates tension and wrong behavior. (Ephesians 4: 15, 25-32) People can’t read our minds. Be honest and speak the truth in love. Don’t let what’s bothering you come to a boiling point. Deal with the problem NOW. Proverbs 15:1 (KJV) says, "A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger."

Because of our sin nature, we usually react. We can’t control others' reactions, but we can make change within ourselves. Anger itself is an emotion. James 1:19-20 (KJV) says, "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God."

Our emotions are influenced by the fall of man. However the Holy Spirit lives within us and HE is capable of controlling our emotions (Romans 8:9-11). When we experience HIS emotions they produce within us the benefits of HIS presence in our hearts which equals the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Emotions control our minds, so renew your mind daily with the Word of God. When we immerse ourselves in the WORD - we are armed with the weapons of God to come against our emotions (Luke 6:45).
